About Let’s Go Green

Who Am I?

I’m a wife, mom of two, and a nurse who apparently had too much time on her hands. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself an environmentalist, at least before this project. But I think I was born with an innate desire to care for the environment. One of my childhood memories includes pulling my red wagon around the neighborhood and collecting trash from the gutters.

The ocean has been one of my life-long obsessions; there’s nothing more calming than the sound of crashing waves. I love sea creatures, scuba diving, and at one point I wanted to be a marine biologist. I am passionate about ocean conservation, despite being raised and living in a land-locked state.

Another of my favorite pastimes is getting my hands dirty in the garden. I completed USU’s Master Gardener program in 2017, and I have some great resources to share. In my own landscape, I have worked hard to decrease water use, create a wildlife friendly-habitat, and employ greener practices.

My Motivation

Besides my inherent desire to leave our planet better than I found it, my kids serve as an additional catalyst to this adventure. I want them to grow up in a world with clean water and breathable air. I hope that they and future generations can enjoy all that the natural world has to offer.

As I have sought ways to live more sustainably, I found that learning how can be extremely time-consuming. I grew frustrated as I spent hours scouring the internet, sifting through mountains of information in search the answers I was looking for.

This is not something I think most people are willing or able to do. I felt that there needed to be a place where all the answers—backed by legitimate sources—could be easily found all in one place. I sincerely hope that by compiling information and resources here, this process is simplified, and you are compelled and equipped to take action towards going green.

I’m not a certified sustainability expert or scientist—I’m learning along with you—but I’m passionate, I research hard, and science and the facts are important to me.

So far I have met some amazing people, toured some fascinating facilities, and learned about a variety of systems. I completed Salt Lake City’s Master Recycler program in spring 2023 and am excited to impart what I learned.
