Salt Lake City Mattress Information

Where can I buy an eco-friendly mattress in Salt Lake City?

Unfortunately, there aren’t many options to try out a sustainable mattress in person before buying online. But before you shop for a new mattress, make sure to read about what to look for in a non-toxic, eco-friendly mattress and browse the non-toxic mattress brands that I have researched.

Your best bet is to head down to Bradley’s Sleep / Salt Lake Mattress located at 2255 South 300 W. They carry Savvy Rest organic mattresses, as well as other brands that use organic or natural materials in their products.

Crate & Barrel carries Naturepedic mattresses; check to see if the model you are interested in is on display in the Fashion Placestore.

Mattress donation in Salt Lake City

Mattresses can be a big tricky to donate as few places will accept them. First try family or friends and from there I suggest the Salt Lake County Buy Nothing group—there are always a number of mattress requests there. The only thrift store I have found that may be able to take gently used mattresses is The Other Side Thrift Boutique.

Mattress disposal in Salt Lake City

Mattresses take up a lot of space in a landfill. Additionally, 90-95% of the components of a mattress can be recycled, so please don’t throw your mattress away!

Mattress recycling

Mattress recycling in Salt Lake City is handled by Spring Back Utah, the only mattress recycling company in the region. There are several ways to get your old mattress to them.

If you are buying a new mattress, check whether the retailer you are purchasing from will haul the old one away for for recycling.

If that is not an option, work with Spring Back directly. How it works:

  • Schedule a pickup online. It costs $60 for them to come collect your mattress from your home, and $20 for each additional mattress, box spring, or mattress frame. If you need assistance getting the mattress outside, they will do that for an extra $30.
  • If you drop the mattress off to them yourself, it will cost you $20.

You can also drop your old mattress off at the Salt Lake Valley Landfill, where Spring Back regularly picks up from. This will cost you $15.

The last option, is to use Salt Lake City’s Call2Haul program. This is a free annual bulk waste collection service for city residents. Schedule your pickup online and they will haul your old mattresses and box springs to Spring Back for recycling.
