Eco-Friendly Baby Products in Salt Lake City

Every parent knows that kids are EXPENSIVE. They need a lot of stuff and then grow out of everything overnight. Luckily, the most eco-friendly baby and children’s products are the most inexpensive.

Buy used baby gear

One eco-friendly (and less expensive) way to shop is by purchasing used items. Just about anything acceptable to buy used, with general caution about car seats and cribs. Parents Magazine has an article on what baby items are ok to buy used.

It’s actually pretty surprising there’s not more kid/baby-focused consignment shops around in the state with the highest birth rate in the country. The only one I’m aware of that can be shopped locally is Kid to Kid.

Other than that, I think KSL and Buy Nothing are going to be the best places to find inexpensive pre-loved goods for your kids.

Online consignment stores that specialize in kids stuff include Once Upon a Child and GoodBuy Gear.

Donate or sell baby items in Salt Lake City

Most baby gear can be given away, sold, or donated, again with the general exception of car seats and cribs. If you want to sell your things, KSL or Facebook Marketplace are probably your best bets.

If you want to donate, there are of course thrift stores and Buy Nothing, or the YWCA and The Road Home’s Midvale Family Resource Center. The last two will take clothing, pack n play, stroller, car seats, formula, body wash, lotion, rash cream, diapers & pull-ups.

Diapers

Shop for cloth diapers at Cloth Diaper in Sandy and Boop Baby located in West Valley.

Diaper recycling in Salt Lake City

Diapers are not recyclable, with the exception of Dyper brand diapers. They have a curbside pickup program that covers 20 cities across the country, and SLC happens to be one of them! For $20 per pickup, their drivers come every other week and take soiled diapers and wipes for composting. Read about their unique process.
